Review

Think of a mix between the innovative instrumental focus of Television and the laid back soporiphic tone of Cowboy Junkies and you might slightly approach what this album sounds like. Even so you would be off by a bit. So yeah, pretty original.

For an album that is really not that famous and that didn't really sell that much it is possibly one of the most influential albums ever, its reprecurssions being felt even today. Even the album cover is prophetic, with a picture taken by Will Oldham of all people.

If you don't know this it is imperative that you download it now, and start knowing it now. A pretty impressive album all around, there is not a bum note in the whole thing. If you are in any way interested in post-rock and math-rock this is an essential addition to your collection, hell if you are interested in music at all.

Trivia

From Wikipedia:

Spiderland has become a landmark indie rock album and is considered, along with Talk Talk's Laughing Stock, to have been the primary catalyst of the post-rock and math rock genres. David Peschek said that the album is "the ur-text for what became known as post-rock, a fractured, almost geometric reimagining of rock music stripped of its dionysiac impulse." Rachel Devine of The List called Spiderland "arguably the most disproportionately influential [album] in music history".

So after many hours of work I officially own all 1001 albums... are there any you still need or are having trouble getting? I know Koffi Olomide was a pain in the ass to track down.

Anon: I only get them with 10 albums advance, and at the moment I'm fine. All the back ones I didn't get (2 of them) I have now as well and I'll review them when I finish this whole thing.

Thanks anyway :)
