Review

Well, here's MacCartney's solo effort. We have to give him points for effort, but frankly he is the Beatle outside Ringo who had the most mediocre career after he left. If you compare this album to George Harrison's or Lennon's already reviewed here it is vastly inferior.

This is not to say there are no good tracks here, because there are, but it is all in all a pretty uninteresting album. It doesn't have the scope of Harrison's Mammoth or the confessional quality of Lennon and the Plastic Ono Band. It is the kind of pop that made Abbey Road such a good album, but with none of the brightness or genius of it.

There are in the end two great tracks in the whole album. These are Junk and Maybe I'm Amazed. And that's it, the rest of the album is not offensive, but it really doesn't stand out. It's just run of the mill. So buy it if you must from Amazon UK or US.

Trivia

From Wikipedia:

It is notable for the fact that McCartney, a multi-instrumentalist, performed the entire album (all instruments and voices) by himself, except for some backing vocals from his first wife, Linda McCartney. McCartney stated that he played "bass, drums, acoustic guitar, lead guitar, piano, Mellotron, organ, toy xylophone and bow and arrow" on the album.

Maybe I'm Amazed... much good vegeterianism did her:
