Reviews

Here we are the big 200! Only 801 to go! And frankly I am liking this more every day, past the slightly dull 50's it just gets better and better and now we take a trip on a modified DeLorean DMC-12 with Doc Brown to the Future of music. The Stooges are way ahead of their time with this amazing album of Proto-Punk.

The album is kind of a concept album charting a fall into complete madness and dementia. If the album starts very much like their self-titled work, it goes down a spiral of destruction until L.A. Blues can barely be described as music at all. Frankly it is all the better for it.

A lot of bands produce some of their best work when imploding and that is definitely the case with this album. The Stooges as we know them were near the end, and the tension created an album full of menace and rage in a really good way. The Stooges don't seek to wow you with technical expertise or lyrics but with a straight punch to the stomach and they are amazing at it. Iggy descends into a completely animal stage at the end of the album and it becomes an experience like very little else. Buy it at Amazon UK or US.

Trivia

From Wikipedia:

In 1999 Rhino Records released a limited edition box set, 1970: The Complete Fun House Sessions, featuring every take of every song from every day of the recording sessions, plus the single versions of "Down On The Street" and "1970". On August 16, 2005, the album was reissued by Elektra and Rhino as a deluxe two-CD set featuring a newly remastered version of the album on disc one and a variety of outtakes (essentially highlights from the Complete Fun House Sessions box set). Jack White contributed liner notes to the reissue, and he called Funhouse the greatest rock album of all time.
